The Portfolio Game

CURRENTLY UNDER BETA TESTING
ONCE BETA TESTING IS COMPLETE, ALL ACCOUNTS WILL BE RESET!

Overview: This is a stock-trading simulation game. The objective is to make as much money as possible through trading stocks and their values increase and decrease. Stocks update according to the following guidelines: the amount by which the value of each stock changes is kept track in the system, but it fluctuates. It randomly increases or decreases by one cent at a time every cycle. Also, whenever a person buys stock, the change rate increases by one cent, which will be applied on the next cycle. Similarly, whenever an investment is sold, the rate of change in that stock will decrease by one cent. Changes will vary up or down but tend to center towards zero. They are more likely to return to zero when they are farther away.

For example, stock X begins at $10 with a change due of +1 cent. Person Y buys stock in X, which causes the change goes up to +2 cents. Then at the top of the cycle, a random deviation is applied (+1 cent, no change, or -1 cent) and the change is added to the stock value. Suppose the stock change goes up 1 cent to +3 cents after the cycle. Then the new value of the stock is $10.03, and the change is +3 cents, to be processed during the next cycle.

Rates of change simulate stock growth and decline, and are what cause you to gain or lose wealth.

You may buy stocks as long as you have sufficient funds, and you may sell stocks at any time. However, all trades cost you $1 to process, so rapid trading may become very expensive!

NOTE: There is no real money involved with this game at all. It is purely simulation.
